Alright. I'm up for running a dark fantasy. I've been itching to do that one for a long time.

Let's discuss the setting, and then we'll discuss system.

I'm really interested in a setting a based on early Britain and Ireland. Celts, druids, vikings, et cetera. I want supernatural elements. Double, double, toil and trouble, but overall a low-magic dirt and grime type feel. The fey are welcome as long as they aren't Tolkien-esque. More of a Jack Vance/Robert E. Howard type of thing. What do you guys think?

Dark fantasy is a yes for me. I'll wait for others to represent but I have a long string of characters that would make me happy.
  3.

What system would you be interested in using?

  4.
I think Primetime Adventures would work really well for PbP, but I almost want something a bit crunchier. I know Cubicle 7 is doing a fantasy version of Starblazer, and I'm on the playtest list. I haven't gotten a document yet, but I'm sure we could cobble something together from SotC and Starblazer. Maybe even Solar System. Any suggestions?
  5.
I have the PDF for Starblazer if you'd like to look it over. It'd work fine but I'd prefer Fudge dice rather than d6-d6 method they suggest.

Oh. Re-read your comment. I just missed your point entirely. The Starblazer fantasy version has been 'coming soon' for a couple of months. I wouldn't wait for it. I've never played Solar System though I've read it several times. That would be interesting. There's also 'Lady Blackbird' which seems pretty cool although not fully vetted and playtested. Other systems I've read and been interested in for this sort of fantasy include Barbarians of Lemuria, the Realm Guard hack for Mouse Guard, Jaws of the Seven Serpents, and In a Wicked Age.

I've just finished Lady Blackbird with my RL group. It's pretty "fast and furious" but I don't think it has the level of crunchiness I'd like. I think Barbarians of Lemuria would be great. There's a Mars setting that I think was written primarily for Savage Worlds, but isn't setting specific...it seems to be based mainly on the Edgar Rice Burroughs books (which I've been reading lately). So...I'm leaning toward BoL. I see you have the same RPGnow/IPR habit I have...and you should see my dice collection.

    Ha!

I never played most of my games. It's hard enough just getting players.  BoL looks pretty easy though.  I'd like the dark fantasy setting better than swords and planet stuff though if that's ok.

  9.

I'd be ok with swords and planet if it was more sword than planet though Smile

  10.

Have you seen the BoL Yahoo group?

    http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/barbariansoflemuria/

It has some GM sheets and other helps in the files section.

  11.
I'm a member of the group, but I haven't frequented it. I'll spend a few minutes checking it out.
  12.

I'm intrigued by the notion of play-by-post, but I've not done it before.  I'm wondering about the time investment.  I've got this virtual tabletop to finish....

  13.
A post or two a day, not counting weekends. It will take several months to play out what would be a single session of live play. I think it's a good way to get a gaming fix in for the man with little free time, such as myself.
  14.
Hey John and Scott, I think if I have the two of you, then we can probably get started. I'll start another thread where we create the setting. Anyone else...feel free to jump in at any time.

I just got the BoL pdf and am interested in playing...however, being deployed right now, there are times when I will be out on mission and unable to post anything at all (internet here...not so much), plus our internet here on base sucks at times...anyway. I would be willing to play, just so long as everyone understood there will be times I cannot post and don't start hating me for it. ;-)

I will take a little time today and read through these rules.

If you want, I can probably get one or two more people to join up, I know one guy that has been itching to play for months and just unable to get a group together due to work and family, a PbP might be right up his alley.

Feel free to join in. It's not like we're playing D&D where we all freeze up if it's your turn to shoot an arrow at a rat and you aren't around.

That would be great. Besides, there's no rule saying that we only have to have one game going here at a time.
